Lorac Social Affair Lipstick Set

Do you love beauty products?  Do you love a deal?  How about when you find the two together?  The Holiday season is the best time to purchase some of your favorite beauty products.  This is the time of the year when cosmetics companies bundle their products together into one box for a great deal!

Recently I purchased the Lorac Social Affair Lipstick and Happy Hour Hues Lip gloss set.  If you follow my blog you know that I love Lorac products and their lipstick and lip gloss never fail.  The lipstick set costs $36.00 for 5 lipsticks.  The lip gloss set costs $25.00 for 5 lip glosses.  The lipsticks retail for $17.00 each and the lip gloss retails for $16.00 so these sets are an amazing bargain for the quality of product you receive.

These sets each come with 5 colors that are very different from one another so you have the option to have a natural lip color or a bold one.  As you can see from the swatches below the lip colors are so pretty and easy to use.  Provocateur is pretty dark and may scare off even the most daring person but if that isn’t your color you can always mix it with another lipstick or add the Angel lip gloss on top to adjust the color accordingly.  Any lipstick or lip gloss can be mixed to create a color that is perfect for you!

Lorac lipsticks are one of my absolute favorite lipsticks on the market.  The color payoff is amazing and you don’t have to keep reapplying throughout the day.  Many times I use these on clients and they always ask what I used because it lasted so long.  If worn alone the lip gloss can last longer than most lip glosses I’ve used but it will not last as long as the lipstick which is typical of lip gloss.  I like to wear these two lip products together for that added shine and the longevity of the lipstick.  So, if you have a certain someone who you need to get a gift for or if you just want to treat yourself these lipsticks will not let you down!  These sets can be found at your local Kohls or Ulta stores.

Stay Beautiful!

L’Oréal Infallible 24 Hour Eye Shadow Review

These were the only colors that I purchased.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted any new blogs due to summer being here.  Not only am I a busy Wife and Mom to 2 boys but I have had weddings every Saturday since May.  So, when I woke up this morning my first thought was “boy am I tired” and my second was “I need to do a blog on my most recent favorite product.”

I was on the hunt for the perfect Rose Gold eye shadow.  After all Rose Gold looks amazing on just about everyone.  So, I put the request on a Facebook page just for professional makeup artists.  After several responses recommending L’Oréal Infallible 24 Hour Eye Shadow in Amber Rush I decided I would head to my local Walgreens and pick it up.  Of course I saw so many other beautiful colors so what was supposed to be a quick trip for 1 eyeshadow turned into way more than 1.  Bonus: Walgreens had them on sale for buy one get one 1/2 off and I cannot refuse a good sale!

This is the description taken from the L’Oréal website: For the 1st time ever, L’Oréal Paris introduces an ultra intense eye shadow that lasts from day until dawn—a full 24 hours. This revolutionary formula fuses the ease of a powder with the velvety caress of a cream to create a unique hybrid that glides on effortlessly. And with its unique technology, your eyes are enhanced with pure, magnified pigment. Make a lasting impression without batting an eye.
(Intense, maximized color; Luxurious powder-cream texture; 24-hour long-lasting hold; Waterproof, crease resistant, fade resistant).

Those statements are all true!

What I love about these eyeshadows is the color payoff is amazing and a little goes a long way.  In fact, I used my brush and when I dipped it into the shadow it didn’t look like much was on my brush but there was a ton of color.  The color is very buildable.  Most of the colors have a shimmer finish to them with a couple having a matte or sparkle finish.  I usually don’t put drugstore brands in my professional kit but I love these so much I couldn’t resist.  I figure if I can give someone a beautiful eye with these eyeshadows then why not!

What I don’t love about these is there is quite a bit of fallout due to their texture.  It seems like it would be a cream eyeshadow based on the package when in all actuality it’s a powder cream hybrid.  It’s not as loose as a a loose powder but not creamy like a cream shadow.  When you dip your brush into the eyeshadow it makes it more loose.  The best thing is to dip your brush and tap it off on the side so you don’t get much fallout on your face and always do your eyes before your foundation to avoid raccoon eyes.  Whatever you do don’t toss the plastic topper that comes on top of the eyeshadow.  This is what presses the eyeshadow back down after you’ve used it.  The other thing I didn’t love are the sparkle eyeshadows.  It may be good for a young teen but for a mature face or one that will be photographed it isn’t good.  Even with these couple of cons I would still buy these.

Don’t discard this little plastic “topper”. It really does serve a purpose!

Here are the swatches.  I didn’t swatch every color.  I bought what I thought I would use.  There are some other colors (greens, blues, etc.) that were very pretty.

There you have it!  I am absolutely head over heels with this product!

Top 10 Skincare Tips For The Perfect Bridal Glow

facialIs your wedding happening soon or is it happening next year?  Whether it’s happening sooner or later it’s never too early to start a skincare regimen. Here I am sharing some advice on how to get your skin clear and luminous for your wedding day.

1.  It’s never too early to start a daily skin care routine.

A daily skin care routine should consist of the following.

A. Cleanse (Once in the morning and once at night.  If you are wearing makeup cleanse once to remove makeup and a second time to cleanse your skin)

B. Tone (Make sure your toner is alcohol free for less irritation)

C. Moisturize (Heavy duty in the P.M. and light weight in the A.M.)

D. Protect (SPF) (To cut down on steps you can purchase a moisturizer that has SPF in it.  Remember you don’t need an SPF in the evening)

In the evening you will want to use a thick eye cream and a night cream.  You will also want to add exfoliation (1-2 times a week) into your skin care routine.  Be careful not to scrub too hard.  You don’t want your face to be beet red when finished.  A nice flush is what it should look like.  I prefer to exfoliate with products that contain glycolic acids or fruit acids.  The granular scrubs tend to irritate my sensitive skin.  Schedule a monthly facial with a licensed esthetician and if you have problematic skin contact a dermatologist.  When you stick with a daily routine your skin will stay at it’s optimal level of health.

2.  Hair today, gone tomorrow

Your makeup will go on much better and your skin will look smoother if you dermaplane.  What is dermaplane you ask?  It is a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses a special tool at a forty-five degree angle and stroked along the skin, while holding the skin taut to remove “peach fuzz” as well as dead skin cells.  Dermaplane does not require any downtime and will give you the smoothest skin possible.  Of course you could shave your face but it may result in ingrown hairs and make you break out or you could opt for laser hair removal, which is very costly.  Contrary to popular belief, your hair will not grow back thicker.  Always see a licensed esthetician or doctor for dermaplaning.

3.  Bye Bye Bacne

Most wedding dresses show off a brides shoulders and back.  You will want to keep those areas free from acne, especially if you are wearing your hair up.  Here are some things you can do to rid yourself of these unsightly bumps.

A.  Start using an anti-bacterial wash on the problematic areas to keep acne stimulating bacteria away.

B.  Use a long handled loofah brush or sponge to exfoliate your back.

C.  If using an anti-bacterial wash and loofah brush or sponge doesn’t help you can also use a clarifying mask on the problem area once a week.  Another option is to schedule a back facial with a licensed esthetician who can do extractions on top of giving your back a deep cleanse and mask.

4.  See Ya Later Chicken Arms

Do you have tiny bumps on the back of your upper arms?  I jokingly refer to them as chicken arms because it feels like chicken skin but the correct terminology for it is Keratosis Pilaris.  While there is no cure for Keratosis Pilaris, you can effectively reduce the bumps by using a moisturizer containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.

5.  To Tan Or Not To Tan

I do not promote tanning beds as I know they are not good for your skin (more wrinkles and skin cancer to name a couple).  I do, however, encourage anyone who wants to look tan to try a spray tan.  You will want to avoid any spray tan disasters and book a test a few weeks out to make sure that you like the way it looks and to make sure you don’t have any reaction to the product used.

6.  Pucker Up

Don’t neglect your lips!  Use a good quality lip balm daily and before bed on the days leading up to your wedding.  Do this for at least a week before your wedding and your lips will be amazingly soft, smooth and ready to kiss the man of your dreams.

7.  Don’t Stress

Stress can lead to breakouts, which can be frustrating when you have spent money and time getting your skin in the best shape possible for your wedding.  Prior to your wedding try meditating (there are plenty guided meditation apps out there) to reduce the amount of stress.  Yoga can also help calm your mind and balance the body.  If you wake up the day before with a major pimple don’t pick it!  Picking it will make it worse, cause scabbing and make more pimples surface.  If you have a dermatologist you could ask them to give you a cortisone shot in the pimple, which will shorten the duration of the pimple.  I had to do this the day before my wedding and the next day it was almost gone.

Yes, I said it, SPF.   Not only should you wear SPF every day leading up to your wedding, you should wear SPF every day.  Period.  The last thing you want to have on your wedding day is crispy red skin.  Not only is it hard to cover sunburned skin because makeup doesn’t want to stick, it’s painful and increases your chance of skin cancer, wrinkles and brown spots.  Whatever you do make sure you are wearing an SPF of 30+ every day.

9.  Don’t Try Any New Products

Don’t try any new products up to four weeks prior to your wedding.  This includes skin care, hair products or even laundry detergent.  If you have any kind of reaction to these products it could take weeks to calm the irritation so I believe it’s best to stick with what you have been using until after the wedding.

10. Don’t Wait

Don’t wait until the last minute to think about your skin.  The longer time you have to correct any skin issues, the better.   I have many products in my professional makeup artist kit and it’s best to start with a great canvas to achieve amazing results.
